NEWS - The location for the Tuesday, September 18 meeting is the TADL at 6:45 p.m.

  • OUR SEPTEMBER REGULAR MEETING WILL BE HELD AT 6:45 P.M. ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 2018 in the McGuire Room at the Traverse Area District Library at 610 Woodmere Avenue in Traverse City. The short program will be by Debbie Bull speaking on Mica and the Main program will a great opportunity to see favorite tools used by our rockhounds. Bring your favorite tool and you will be able to show and describe the tool and how you use it. This is always a fun and educational event.
  • Our Annual Rock, Mineral, Gem, Jewelry and Fossil Show will be held on Saturday, September 29 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, September 30 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The location is the Cherryland VFW Post at 3400 Veterans Drive in Traverse City. Paleo Joe will give presentations at 1:00 p.m. both days of the show. On Saturday he will speak about his Dinosaur Dig in Utah and on Sunday, the feature will be Fossils of the Michigan Basin. The show also features vendors, displays, a lively Young Rockhounds area, and prize drawings. Please come and join us!
  • Our October meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 16 and will feature Mitch Dillon speaking on What To Do With Your Petoskey Stones during the 5 minute program. The long program will be Colorado Minerals by Lisa and Gary Knudsen.
  • The club has renewed the lease with the City of Traverse City to use the equipment room in the Carnegie building (Crooked Tree Art Center / former History Center). Open work room sessions are being held on Monday evenings. (Closed in July.) You must be a member and have taken the cabochon class to use the work room and you must register in advance due to the limited number of machines. See Cindy Wicksall to sign up or put your name on the list at the information table.
  • The 2018 Keweenaw Mineral Days, formerly known as The Copper Country Mineral Retreat was held July 17 - 21, 2018.... You can visit the website by clicking on the underlined event name above to find out the details.
  • Additional opportunities for collecting in the U.P. were offered by the Ishpeming and Copper Country Rock and Mineral Clubs between August 3 and 10. The Ishpeming events were held on August 3,5 and 6. The Copper Country events were on August 5 through 10. Follow the link to their web sites from our Sponsors/Links page. Rock and Mineral shows were also held in both communities. The Ishpeming show was on August 4 and the show in Houghton was August 10, 11, and 12. Check their websites for more information.
  • Various instructors will be teaching beginning cabochon classes in 2018 and Ken Schug will be teaching beginning silversmithing classes. Check with, Cindy Wicksall or the information table about getting on the list for a class in 2018. Remember, you must be a member of the club to participate in these or other classes.
