NEWS - The location for the MONDAY, July 16 meeting is the TADL at 6:45 p.m.

  • OUR JULY REGULAR MEETING WILL BE HELD AT 6:45 P.M. ON MONDAY, July 16, 2018 in the McGuire Room at the Traverse Area District Library at 610 Woodmere Avenue in Traverse City. The short program will be by Carol Popa and the Main program will be Deb Bull on Kentucky Agates. The meeting is being held on the 3rd Monday due to a scheduling conflict with the room at the library.
  • IN AUGUST THERE IS NO REGULAR MEETING. IN ITS PLACE, THERE IS A CLUB PICNIC AT THE HOME OF JOHN AND JANE MATZ HELD ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 19 WITH APPETIZERS AT 4:00 P.M. AND DINNER AT 5:00 P.M.. See your June or July newsletter for directions and instructions on a dish to pass and other items to bring.
  • On Saturday, July 21, Korner Gem is holding a Kid's Day with fun activities and child friendly prices on special items. Korner Gem is located at 13031 S. Fisherman Cove in the NW corner of Traverse City.
  • The club has renewed the lease with the City of Traverse City to use the equipment room in the Carnegie building (Crooked Tree Art Center / former History Center). Open work room sessions are being held on Monday evenings. (Closed in July.) You must be a member and have taken the cabochon class to use the work room and you must register in advance due to the limited number of machines. See Cindy Wicksall to sign up.
  • The 2018 Keweenaw Mineral Days, formerly known as The Copper Country Mineral Retreat will be held July 17 - 21, 2018.... The schedule for 2018 is posted. Registration is open but sessions may be full. You can visit the website by clicking on the underlined event name above to find out the details.
  • Additional opportunities for collecting in the U.P. are offered by the Ishpeming and Copper Country Rock and Mineral Clubs between August 3 and 10. The Ishpeming events will be held on August 3,5 and 6. The Copper Country events are on August 5 through 10. Registration is currently full for the CCRMC collecting events. Follow the link to their web sites from our Sponsors/Links page. Rock and Mineral shows were also being held in both communities. The Ishpeming show is on August 4 and the show in Houghton was August 10, 11, and 12. Check their websites for more information.
  • Various instructors will be teaching beginning cabochon classes in 2018 and Ken Schug will be teaching beginning silversmithing classes. Check with, Cindy Wicksall about getting on the list for a class in 2018. Remember, you must be a member of the club to participate in these or other classes.

  • The 2018 Petoskey Stone Festival was held at Barnes Park in Eastport on Saturday, May 26, 2018. Check the festival website by clicking on the event title for more information.
