NEWS - Due to Covid 19, we are planning an outdoor July meeting. More info soon...

  • Most club activities are currently on hold due to the Covid 19 outbreak. This includes our indoor meetings, classes and workroom sessions. We are planning a July outdoor meeting. We will let club members know as soon as we know the details. A collecting trip is planned on June 27 to the Meauwataka Gravel Pit. It is a large area so social distancing will not be a problem and bring a mask or other face covering in case you have closer conversations with other members.
  • I have found some great resources on the Maine Mineral and Gem Museum website for things to do while not having a lot of public contact. Check out the MMGM@HOME page link at the top of the page. To check out this site CLICK HERE!!
  • The club has a lease with the City of Traverse City to use the equipment room in the Carnegie building (Crooked Tree Arts Center / former History Center)on Sixth Street. Open work room sessions will be held on Monday evenings as soon as we can resume. (Closed in July.) You must be a member and have taken the cabochon class to use the work room and you must register in advance due to the limited number of machines. E-mail to sign up for a work session.
  • The 2020 Keweenaw Mineral Days, formerly known as The Copper Country Mineral Retreat will be held July 14 - 18, 2020.... You can visit the website by clicking on the underlined event name above to find out the details. Collecting events to the Seneca, Wolverine #2 and Central Mines will be featured. As of June 5, they are still planning on holding this event with mask and distancing requirements in place.
  • Additional opportunities for collecting in the U.P. may be offered in 2020 by the Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Club. Their August 1 show has been cancelled and the collecting events are still up in the air. Ishpeming collecting events if held, are on Friday, July 31 to the Republic Iron Mine; Sunday, August 2 at the Lindberg Quarry for Kona Dolomite; and Monday, August 3 to the Michigan Gold Mine. The Michigan Gold Mine is the only trip that needs pre-registration. For more information, check their website from our Sponsors/Links page.
  • The Copper Country Rock and Mineral Club has cancelled their show and collecting events that originally were going to be between August 2 and 9. Follow the link to their web site from our Sponsors/Links page. The CCRMC Rock and Mineral show would have been held on August 7, 8, and 9.
  • Various instructors hope to be teaching beginning cabochon classes in the fall of 2020 and Ken Schug and Janet Ryan will be teaching beginning silversmithing classes. E-mail to sign up for a class. Remember, you must be a member of the club to participate in these or other classes.
  • Be sure to check the calendar and the GTARMC newsletter for further updates!
  • The 2020 Petoskey Stone Festival was scheduled to be held at Barnes Park in Eastport on Saturday, May 23, 2020 but was cancelled due to Coroavirus concerns. Check the festival website by clicking on the event title for more information on the 2021 show and vendor opportunities.
