NEWS - Our THURSDAY, April 18 meeting will be at the VFW at 6:30 p.m...

  • The THURSDAY, April 18 meeting short program, will feature Pierre LaFoille speaking on "Porcelain". For the main program, Gwen Drews will be presenting slides and information about her recent rockhounding trip. The meeting starts at 6:30 at the VFW.
  • Looking ahead, the THURSDAY, May 16 meeting will be "Demo Night" where members will have stations set up to show how to perform a skill, make a project, or use a tool. Let Bob White, Vice President know if you are willing to share your demo with others that night. For the June 20 program, it will be our annual silent auction fund raiser. Club members will bring items to donate that we will all bid on in a couple of lively rounds of bidding. Items can be rock or mineral related, lapidary creations, baked goods, or other interesting items. Both meetings will start at 6:30 at the VFW.

  • The club has a lease with the City of Traverse City to use the equipment room in the Carnegie building (Crooked Tree Arts Center)on Sixth Street. Open work room sessions are available. You must be a member and have taken the cabochon class to use the work room. You must register in advance due to the limited number of machines. E-mail scheduling@tcrockhounds.com to sign up for a work session. Remember, the workroom is not to be used for commercial puposes.
  • The 2023 Keweenaw Minerals Days were held August 4 - 12, 2023.... You can visit the website by clicking on the underlined event name above to find out the details. The organized events were on Friday, August 4 at the Seasman Mineral Museum. The remainder of the time was 15% off purchases at the Museum and Keweenaw Gem and Gift, and free admission to the museum for registered participants. No collecting events were offered through Michigan Tech in 2023. The event dates were changed last year to be the same as those offered by the Copper Country Rock and Mineral Club which offered collecting events. As of April 2, 2024, the information for 2024 has not been posted on their website.
  • The 2024 Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Club show will be held on Saturday, August 3. There will be two collecting events this year. Friday, August 2 will be a collecting trip to the Republic Iron Mine. Sunday, August 4 is a trip to the Lindburg Quarry to collect Kona Dolomite.   • The Copper Country Rock and Mineral Club held their collecting and social events, August 6 through 11, 2023. Collecting trips to the Cliff, Seneca, Central, and Wolverine were scheduled from August 7 through 11. Follow the link to their web site from our Sponsors/Links page. The CCRMC Rock and Mineral show was August 11, 12, and 13. No information for 2024 has been posted as of April 2, 2024.
  • Various instructors will be teaching beginning cabochon classes, silversmithing, and wire wrapping classes. E-mail scheduling@tcrockhounds.com to sign up for a class. Remember, you must be a member of the club to participate in these or other classes. There are class size limits.

  • The 2024 Petoskey Stone Festival will be held at Barnes Park in Eastport on Saturday, May 25, 2024. Check the festival website by clicking on the event title for more information or check their Facebook page.
