NEWS - The location for the Tuesday, June 18 meeting is the TADL at 6:45 p.m.

  • Our June meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 18 at 6:45 p.m., and will our annual silent auction. Members are encouraged to bring one or more items to donate for the auction. There will be no money returned to the donator, it all goes into the club funds for equipment, programs and projects. Items can be rock and mineral, lapidary and jewelry, baked goods or other items of interest to club members. There will be 2 rounds of 15 to 20 minutes for bidding on the items.
  • Our July meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 16 at 6:45 p.m., and will feature Lauren Vaughn with the 5 minute program and Don Reed will present the long program on Keweenaw rocks.
  • The club has a lease with the City of Traverse City to use the equipment room in the Carnegie building (Crooked Tree Arts Center / former History Center)on Sixth Street. Open work room sessions are being held on Monday evenings. (Closed in July.) You must be a member and have taken the cabochon class to use the work room and you must register in advance due to the limited number of machines. See Cindy Wicksall to sign up or put your name on the list at the information table.
  • The 2019 Keweenaw Mineral Days, formerly known as The Copper Country Mineral Retreat will be held July 16 - 20, 2019.... Registration has begun and may be full so check on availability ASAP if you are interested. You can visit the website by clicking on the underlined event name above to find out the details. Collecting events to the Seneca, Wolverine #2 and Central Mines will be featured.
  • Additional opportunities for collecting in the U.P. are offered by the Ishpeming and Copper Country Rock and Mineral Clubs between August 2 and 9. This year the Ishpeming events will be held on August 2 through 6. Follow the link to their web sites from our Sponsors/Links page. The Annual Gem and Mineral show in Ishpeming will be on Saturday, August 3. Collecting events will be Friday, August 2 to the Republic Iron Mine; Sunday, August 4 at the Lindberg Quarry for Kona Dolomite; and Monday, August 5 to the Michigan Gold Mine. For more information and registration dates, watch their website. Only the Michigan Gold mine event has a limit of 40 participants.
  • The Copper Country Rock and Mineral Club's events will be between August 6 and 9. Their details were posted on March 15 and registration began the same day. The collecting trips are full as of April 8. Follow the link to their website from our Sponsors/Links page. The CCRMC Rock and Mineral show will be held on August 9, 10, and 11. Check their website to watch for registration details and to see if you can get on a waiting list.
  • Various instructors will be teaching beginning cabochon classes in 2019 and Ken Schug will be teaching beginning silversmithing classes. Check with, Cindy Wicksall or the information table about getting on the list for a class in 2019. Remember, you must be a member of the club to participate in these or other classes.
