NEWS - The location for the Tuesday, September 17 meeting is the TADL at 6:45 p.m.

  • There is no August regular meeting. In place of the meeting we have our annual club picnic. It will be held at the home of John and Jane Matz. More details will be avaiable at the July meeting as well as a sign-up sheet.
  • Our September meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 17 at 6:45 p.m., and will feature Pierre LaFoille with the 5 minute program on Drilling Stones and the long program will be "Expert Night" where various members demonstate a skill used in the hobby.
  • On Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29, we will be holding our annual Rock and Mineral Show at the Cherryland VFW Hall at 3400 Veterans Drive in Traverse City. Saturday's hours are 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday's hours are 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.will feature 21 club vendors. All spaces are full for the event. Come and do some shopping for your collection or for gifts.
  • The club has a lease with the City of Traverse City to use the equipment room in the Carnegie building (Crooked Tree Arts Center / former History Center)on Sixth Street. Open work room sessions are being held on Monday evenings. (Closed in July.) You must be a member and have taken the cabochon class to use the work room and you must register in advance due to the limited number of machines. See Cindy Wicksall to sign up or put your name on the list at the information table.
  • The 2019 Keweenaw Mineral Days, formerly known as The Copper Country Mineral Retreat was held July 16 - 20, 2019.... You can visit the website by clicking on the underlined event name above to find out the details. Collecting events to the Seneca, Wolverine #2 and Central Mines were featured.
  • Additional opportunities for collecting in the U.P. were offered by the Ishpeming and Copper Country Rock and Mineral Clubs between August 2 and 9. This year the Ishpeming events were held on August 2 through 6. Follow the link to their web sites from our Sponsors/Links page. The Annual Gem and Mineral show in Ishpeming was on Saturday, August 3. Collecting events were Friday, August 2 to the Republic Iron Mine; Sunday, August 4 at the Lindberg Quarry for Kona Dolomite; and Monday, August 5 to the Michigan Gold Mine.   • The Copper Country Rock and Mineral Club's events were between August 6 and 9. Their details were posted on March 15 and registration began the same day. Follow the link to their website from our Sponsors/Links page. The CCRMC Rock and Mineral show was held on August 9, 10, and 11.
  • Various instructors will be teaching beginning cabochon classes in 2019 and Ken Schug and Janet Ryan will be teaching beginning silversmithing classes. Check with Cindy Wicksall or the information table about getting on the list for a class in 2019. Remember, you must be a member of the club to participate in these or other classes.
